This Bacchus wine boasts vibrant aromas of elderflower, melon, and passion fruit. On the palate, it offers rich flavours of tropical fruits, guava, and pear, finishing with a crisp touch of minerality.

Originally from South Africa, Terlingham's founders moved to the UK in 2007. Despite being enthusiastic wine consumers, they had no experience in winemaking or farming and were uncertain about what the UK had in store for them. However, their love for the outdoors and nature fuelled their search for adventure.
In 2011, they discovered beautiful Folkestone and found Terlingham Vineyard for sale. It immediately felt like home, especially since their grandparents were born and raised in nearby Ashford before emigrating to South Africa, making this move feel like a return to their roots. Terlingham embraced the opportunity and, through their own efforts, transformed the vineyard into the magical place it is today.
Almost ten years in, Terlingham continues to enjoy the journey and is excited about where this adventure is taking the family.
The vines at Terlingham Vineyard were planted in 2006, and the vineyard was just getting into its stride when Terlingham took over. Initially, the vineyard was farmed using standard commercial methods, which included a range of artificial chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides.
As Terlingham's founders learned more, they became uncomfortable with the impact of these chemicals on the soil and local plant and animal life. Over a decade ago, they made the decision to switch to sustainable farming. Today, Terlingham uses no artificial pesticides or herbicides. They encourage the growth of natural wild grasses and flowers among the vines, welcoming the bees, butterflies, and spiders that accompany them. All vineyard work is done by hand, and their wines are made in a traditional, low-intervention manner.
Their 2022 carbon footprint audit revealed a negative 11.9-tonne footprint, making Terlingham a carbon sink for the area. The farm also features an ancient woodland along the east boundary, serving as a local sanctuary for biodiversity and home to several rare and indigenous species. Terlingham is proud to be accredited by Sustainable Wines of Great Britain.
Enjoying a glass of wine from a producer in this scheme means the grapes have been grown and the wine made by someone dedicated to conserving the environment, promoting biodiversity, and mitigating climate change by minimizing their carbon footprint.
2* Moving On Up
Terlingham Vineyard stands as a beacon for all things good and sustainable about wine. Acquired by Graham and Lorna in 2011 when they moved from South Africa, the estate is now run by sisters Ashleigh, Caroline and Jackie. The vineyard boasts a modest 5,500 vines, not enough for large-scale production but certainly sufficient for producing high-quality, superbly crafted wine.
Keen to ensure their operations are as sustainable as possible, Ashleigh, Caroline and Jackie alongside the team at Terlingham focus solely on pioneering a sustainable approach to vine farming. Artificial pesticides and herbicides are forbidden, and the encouragement of undergrowth between the vines attracts bees, butterflies, spiders, and many other organisms, fostering a healthy, thriving ecosystem.
With an impressive carbon footprint audit of negative 11.9 tonnes, Terlingham is backed by the Sustainable Wines of Great Britian scheme but do not hold any sustainability certifications.
“We believe the practice and principles are more important than the paperwork. As a small vineyard, the cost of gaining multiple certifications is simply prohibitive and so we focused our energy, and our cash on doing the right thing, the right way.”

Cellaring: Drinking well now.
Vinification: Grape harvest by machine, soft pressing, and then alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature (16-18°C). Aging for 3 months in stainless steel vats, stabilization with cold, light filtration before bottling.
With the idea to keep this a crisp, fresh expression of bacchus, this wine undergoes no malolactic fermentation and is fermented in stainless steel vats to retain its core freshness. Grapes were harvested on the 28th September 2023. This wine is also vegan and vegetarian friendly.
